Shag Cocktail Cats: A Night of Cocktails, Hors d’oeuvres, and a New Collection Release

This month, we’re thrilled to bring you something purr-fectly playful and artfully wild: Shag Cocktail Cats. This is a collaboration that blends retro cocktail culture with our favorite furry babies. This release is all about bold colors, mid-century art, and celebrating community.

For this drop, we teamed up with The Purrty Pals, a foster-based cat adoption agency doing beautiful work finding forever homes for kitties in need. We believe in supporting local causes that make an impact, so we’re encouraging Harveys members to donate to The Purrty Pals for a chance to be entered into our Online Lawn Chair Giveaway. Meaghan, the creator behind The Purrty Pals, will be at the Shag event, with friendly cats and kittens up for adoption! You can also donate in person for a chance to enter into the In-Store Lawn Chair Giveaway.
How Shag Came Into Our World
Dana and Melanie were fans of Shag since the 2000s and met him at a print release and signing on June 8, 2002 at the Starlite Room. They then purchased the pair of his Calypso Prints. He signed them "To The Harveys". This was their first time meeting him and they followed his career. Later on, they purchased another piece from an art show at Grand Central Art Center in January 2004 called "Kiss the Cook". We also exhibited a limited edition bag at that show called “Hell in a Handbag”. We finally got a chance to work with him for our first release of Mr. X and then the rest is history! We are proud to call Shag our longtime collaborator.
The Artwork
“Shag Cocktail Cats” plays with classic cocktail imagery: martinis, tiki umbrellas, swizzle sticks, and pairs them with curious cats. Think bright hues, vintage glasses, and that touch of feline imagery. These prints are bold, playful, and perfect for anyone who loves color, cats, and cool design. We’re excited to unveil how Shag’s illustrations will be brought to life with our seatbelt silhouettes!
The Party!
Of course the release wouldn’t be complete without a celebration! We’re throwing a launch party to toast the Shag Cocktail Cats drop, expect Tiki drinks, great music, and decorations that match the collection’s aesthetic: retro meets tiki chic. We took the Shag Cocktail Cats photos at Le Hut, the retro diner nestled inside Santa Ana Diesel. The space’s vintage design and bold colors fit the collection so perfectly, it was like stepping into a scene from Shag’s own imagination. (Fun fact: Dana and Dana Junior had a hand in helping design Le Hut — so the location was just so fitting for this shoot!) We can’t share too much yet but here is a sneak:
